WIRED Magazine App Reviews

Great how Wired actually makes use of the iPad, instead of just duplicating the print content.

Poor

Low on substance and poor usability mar this app

Non-functional subscription system

Im not able to subscribe to this magazine. The interface appears to be broken. Fix the application if you want my money. ;)

Worst $20 I have ever spent!

I purchased an annual subscription and I have never been able to get it to work. Sent a request to Wired "Customer Service" (is that whats its called these days?) and received no response. As the title states - Worst $20 I have ever spent (and I havent always made great purchase decisions!)!!!

One of the best iPad magazine apps..

I have 3 other iPad magazine apps (Popular science, maximum PC and Maxim) and Wired is the best one (tech wise of course). Shows great, love the animations on the articles and the occasional videos. They do a great job with this app. For $20 a year I personally dont think you can go wrong (although if you can get it cheaper from Wired directly why not. I didnt know that). But for the work they put into this magazine I am not complaining and i will renew no problem Always enjoy reading it. Only thing to say for those with a 16 GB iPad you are in trouble because some magazine files are really large and will eat up space quickly. I have a 32 GB and I can hold 9 or 10 mags along with every other mag and apps, books, movies etc before I run out. Of space.

no support

Same as Brad. I had to replace my iPad and since getting the new one there is no way I can find to get my subscription going again. Numerous requests for "support" have been ignored. One word on the support form, when you HAVE to enter a zip code for the form to actually submit, its awfully hard to do that when you are not an American customer and, therefor, do not have a zip code. I loved the magazine but this experience has turned me right off, no way will I subscribe again.

Crash!!

Used to be a great app. But after update, all this app does is crash. Please fix it!!

Used to be great!

Ive read wired since it first came out, starting of course in print form, and now on the iPad, but no more. The mag has turned more into a video game than a provider of information. While there are still some excellent articles, each month seems to have turned into a contest of what new gimmick can be added to an article. This no doubt causes the crashes others have complained about. There are so many swooping animations, redirects to web sites, swipes up, down, double clicks and multiple choice selections, the experience is like playing a maze game. They seem to have lost the fact an excellent mag provides excellent information, not just gimmicks.

Useless subscription

When Apple came up with newsstand, I thought the whole idea was that the latest magazine would be automatically downloaded. But it doesnt, even worse, you must babysit the download and you can only download one magazine at a time. It would be better if it was just a regular app. Every time I get on a plane, I pull out my iPad and think, good time to read wired. Nope, 350MB on wifi at an airport usually takes an hour and I cant use my iPad for anything else. Pure garbage. Now I just got an email noting that I have been charged for another year. Managing subscriptions on an iPad is in a ridiculously hidden location. (Store, touch featured, scroll to bottom, select apple ID, then select manage subscriptions). Then you can disable autorenew which is automatically chosen when you purchase an annual subscription.

Crashing

Since Apple updated the app no longer works and Support option will not accept a non US request. Love the magazine but unless this app is quickly fixed dont waste your money. Feeling like I have been ripped off tbh. Had higher expectations such as being able to read the magazine and even contact customer service...

Retina display

Please increase the resolution of your pages to run on iPad 3 or switch to a vector based format like Zinio!

Crashes every time

The app is badged showing a new issue is available, but it crashes every time I launch it. I tried restarting my iPad 1, but that made no difference. Ive read a half-dozen issues with it in previous months. Its nicely designed, but just not reliable.

Crashes

A download process that brought back memories of dial-up internet connections, then it crashes every few minutes on my iPad. One star for the little bit of extra content.

Great Magazine Best Ads

this is one of my favourite magazines the digital copy has the most amazing additions to the paper edition including videos added story details and amazing advertisements easy to manoeuvre. Wired has exceptional articles

Crashy mccrasherson

Without a network connection, the app always crashes.

Lo res text on my iPad 3? Inconceivable!

Some of the text is lo-res... unless theyre trying to make it look like 8bit graphics? Well, it looks like crap. If any app should be on the cutting edge, its this one. Bad job! Previous review: I have purchased a few wired magazines on this app, and now only one is available. It seems that there are major technical problems with this app, which has amounted to them stealing my money and not giving me access to my purchases. It makes you wonder if Wired magazine is really a credible source of technology entertainment information if they cant get their iPad app to function properly. They better fix the app and give me a future issue for free or Im going to try and get all my money back. Not impressed.

Great!

Anyone who says otherwise should be considered a low-information person

iPhone?

I would like to read from the iPhone.

Poor

Content is excellent, but this app has some flaws: - content is way too big and takes ages to download. - general performance of app is poor (poor switching between web UIs and code; no network notification spinner on download; progress bars on download jump around at the end). - rendering of pages can be slow. - sign up/registration is very unintuitive. - does not feel like a quality iOS app. This just isnt a pleasant app to use, in my opinion.

New version keeps logging me out

The new version keeps logging me out so I dont see my subscription. Its really annoying having to log back in!
